The myths of ancient Greece offer us so much more than just fantastical stories of mythical creatures and larger than life Gods and Goddesses… they offer us templates of archetypal journeys represented through each of the stories of those deities. The Greek pantheon were the first Gods and Goddesses of the polytheistic world to be portrayed as fully human beings. Others are all part animal, part human. The Greek Gods and Goddesses, therefore, hold a specific and highly developed place in the human psyche.

For this reason, we can look to those myths and find deeper understanding about our life experiences. We can look to them, too, for how to grow through our experiences and become more whole and centered and clear in who we are… and free to live the life we long for.

So… Who is the Persephone Woman?

How does living out this archetypal story play out in a woman’s day to day life? First and foremost, for a woman to have been pitched into a Persephone journey, there has to have been a Hades. Yeah, read that again…

To have become a woman with a Persephone archetype, you had to have had a Hades.

For many of us that showed up in our early childhood years through a father, a stepfather, an uncle or a family friend. And for others, it came through a cousin, a boy at school, a date with someone we knew… the list goes on and on. Regardless of what form he appeared in, that male figure “abducted” us from our innocence and took us captive into an underworld journey where he ruled over us. And he has continued to rule over us in our psyche, keeping us locked in internal states of freeze and fawn - if not outright terror - and behaviors of people-pleasing, dimming our light and overriding our instincts and perceptions.

Many women living in this journey find themselves cut off from clear connection with their intuition, their voice and their sense of self-worth. They lack a sense of ownership of their own bodies and their sexual pleasure.

In Persephone’s Journey: From Victimized Maiden to Empowered Queen, we will fully explore the ways in which a woman comes to be ruled by this archetype, and how she can take the path of growth to clear her psyche and reclaim lost aspects of herself.

Class 1: Meet the
Persephone Woman

In this first class of this course, we’ll look further into the myth itself to establish the parallels between the myth and the lived experience of women. From her first encounter with Hades onward, Persephone comes into contact with both horrors and helpers who ultimately shape and define her journey. This is true in the Persephone Woman’s journey, too. You’ll be guided to look at what those have been in your own life such that you are then clear on the pieces that are most significant to you and your path going forward. This class will lay the groundwork for you to understand your relationship with the underworld, and prepare you to make the movement from Maiden to Queen.

Class 2 - Living as the

Victimized Maiden

The Persephone Woman becomes locked in a state of victimized maidenhood that never has room to develop into a mature woman. Aspects of herself are stuck in the past at the age or ages where she had an encounter with Hades. She might literally feel childlike, or she might have convinced herself that she’s a grown up while her internal world still feels shaky and is marked by deep insecurity that she covers with a mask of self-assurance. She often feels at the mercy of men, either desperately needing them so much that she becomes anxiety ridden and in bondage to their whims, or vehemently demanding their attention with tantrums that echo those of a five year old. How this plays out depends largely on what other archetypes are present. In either case, this woman’s life is run by her emotional immaturity and her inability to move through that and grow into a fully matured adult. In this class you will be led to make peace with all of this and begin to leave it in the past.

Class 3 - Becoming the

Empowered Queen

The lesser known part of Persephone’s story is that she ultimately becomes the Queen of the Underworld, and a far more powerful presence there than even Hades himself. For a woman to make the movement towards claiming her throne, she must first decide she wants that for herself and then find the pathway that will take her there. This entails bringing all disparate aspects of herself into a whole, and recontextualizing her cyclical relationship with the underworld as a part of what makes her a powerful Queen. Through this final class of the series you will be guided through an exploration of the characteristics of an empowered woman, looking at how to find those in your own life. Whether the realm you rule over is a household with young children or a business that employs many people, the qualities of a beloved sovereign are the same. Together, we will set you squarely on the path of goodness that belongs to a woman who owns her power with confidence and grace.
